Pause QR Code orders in the app

Currently we can pause our online pickup orders via our ipad or iphone apps, but no option to pause our QR code orders if we need to close the kitchen early.

The only other way to do this is to log in to squareup on the browser, go to online, fulfillment and turn off QR code ordering there. Then we have to remember to turn it back on when we need it. Clunky, and not possible on an iphone in the browser unless you request a desktop version of the webpage and turn the phone sideways..

Sometimes I can do this on my laptop if I'm at work when we need to do this, but if it's just staff on shift it's a problem.

Even moving the QR code settings to fulfillment would make this slightly better, rather than having to go to Online settings first.

I can definitely see how frustrating this would be, especially during a busy shift when staff need to make quick decisions without having to navigate through multiple settings.

If online pickup orders can be paused directly from the app, it makes sense to have that same convenience for QR code ordering.

I especially like the idea of having a simple pause/resume option within the app, ideally with the ability to set a specific time for orders to automatically resume. That would eliminate the extra steps and the risk of forgetting to turn ordering back on.

Even moving QR code controls into the Fulfillment section would be a step in the right direction.

This is a great feature request, and I hope the Square team takes it into consideration! 💙

I Agree - Had an internet outage last week, network was down, printers not printing - back to manual paper and pen and processing transactions with hotspot connected. Turned Uber/ online ordering off. Couldn't turn QR codes off quickly at all. This would defiantly have benefited me in this situation.

You might be able to handle the POS restrictions by putting your meal deals into separate menus instead of menu groups. Square lets you schedule menus by day and time, and staff need an override to access them outside those hours. It won't necessarily prevent staff from finding the items through search, though.

Here's Square's guide to scheduling menus.

For online ordering, Square announced an update in May 2026 that shows available menu groups by default. Customers can still browse unavailable groups under "All Items."

Here's the announcement.

Yes, you can go into Orders and click the three dots on the top of the screen and click Order Timing. On this screen, you have a variety of option to manage your online channels. You can click pause all incoming orders for different lengths of time, you can turn off your online ordering profile or your website. You can even pause any delivery services that you work with.

OR... you can do like my staff normally does and send me text messages IN ALL CAPS from 5 people begging me to please turn it off as the kitchen is getting slammed. 🙄

Hey @Getonthebus. Yep, I'm aware of this. But the reason I posted is because what you have outlined does not cover QR code ordering, just pickup and delivery. I'm requesting to add QR code ordering to this particular part of the app.. so my staff don't text me asking me to turn it off.
