Larger font size for kitchen printers

Larger font size for kitchen printers

The kitchen tickets are hard to read because the font is so small. It would be great if the item font was larger with the modifiers being a bit small than the item.

I have seen another thread for this asking to increase the size. I feel this request is much needed for the coffee shop industry (which is why I am requesting this feature). Printing drink tickets to put on our cups for orders allows us to ensure we do not mess up drinks. However, the kitchen tickets font is relatively large for this use, and making it smaller so they do not take up the entire cup would be a huge help. For some drinks, the ticket almost is longer than the height of the cup.

Please, please make this a feature!!!

@dpackard Couple of things you can do here.  I would #1 make sure under your printer options you have the "print compact tickets" checked as this removes extra paper that many people use on an ticket rail to hold the tickets.

The second thing you can look at is with square for restaurants (even the free version) is using Kitchen Names.  This feature you can take a long item name and shorten it to something that makes sense in the kitchen.  I.E.  Grande Skinny Vanilla Latte might word wrap on a ticket but the name Lrg Skn Van LT is half the length (or whatever abbreviations make sense for you.  Here is a link to more info, but I have found this can really reduce the amount of paper/ink if you are using an impact printer or just paper for a thermal.

Do you use thermal, impact, or a label printer for your drinks?

Do you want to have great restaurant menus that are easy to edit and don't cost a fortune? I use MustHaveMenus and you can too!

@Donnie-M Thank you so much for the response! I see what you mean by the Kitchen Names but we don’t see the length of the words to be so much of an issue as how many modifiers are on the drinks. I do have it set to remove the spacing at the top. I understand for the kitchen why the font may be the size it is but there is a lot more wasted space for a drink ticket.

We are using the Star Micronics TSP654IISKE thermal printer. With an 80mm sticky paper roll.

@JJ_  Any update on this or the ability to change the paper roll width to a smaller paper size? Either would bring benefit to the coffee shop Square users!

Thanks!

Agreed! This would be helpful!

I just posted a feature request earlier today trying to solve the same issue.

if Square could provide support for 58mm sticky labels on receipt paper (instead of the 80mm that’s currently the only option), it would scale the font down and allow the stickers to more comfortably fit

I know this from experience as I’ve tested both the 80mm and 58mm sticky labels. The iOS Square app has a feature that allows you to switch the printer to 58mm and it scales the ticket perfectly! Fits great on just about any standard-sized coffee cup as small as 8oz

unfortunately, all my registers in my cafe are Square Registers and they don’t currently support that feature of choosing your label paper size

regardless, smaller text and/or support of 58mm sticky labels would be super helpful so our tickets can actually fit on coffee cups!

Do we have any updates on this feature? We are a boba shop and the kitchen label is too large to attach to our cup.

Also can we remove more margin when "print compact tickets" is on? Right now this seems not doing much.

Yes! Would like this feature very much. Please let us know the status of an update.

This feature would help us a ton as well!  The label sticks out like a sore thumb as the font is not pleasing and the color is a stark contrast.  Even a few sizes down on the font would be helpful.
