Is there a way to change the default "Create a new Library item" to "create a new library Service" ?

Is there a way to change the default "Create a new Library item" to "create a new library Service" ?

Hi there Community. 

I own a Handyman Business and I absolutely LOVE using Square to create Estimate and Invoicing for my clients. 
I feel a tad frustrated that when I'm in the process of creating a new Estimate or Invoice, under the new "line item" area, when I'm typing in services or projects requested by my clients, whenever there is something new, it will automatically prompt and ask if you would like to "create a new library item", which is wonderful, except I don't use "library Items" I use "library Services" 
I really love the option to create new "items" right in the moment, especially when they will be Services I will utilize again and again. 
I just wish there was a way to change the Default from "items" to "services" so that I don't have go into Add Services separately and create the new service, or go into the Item Library and convert all the new "Items" into services.
I hope this make sense what I'm talking about and suggesting

Sort of...service charges have to be created manually. But if you treat your services more like a "retail item" you could change the default! It's not perfect, but might be a work around? You could change the item to 'other' instead of physical item.

 

If you go to Items > Settings (left side menu, at the bottom) > Item defaults > Item type. If you change it here, it'll carry over to the estimates/invoices when you choose 'create a new item' in the line item area.

 

You can also add the services as items so you can get the estimate/invoice done. Then, go to the service library and select action. From there, it'll give you an option to convert items to services:

@WoodCandleCo  Thank you for idea and suggestion. I currently utilize the "work-around" you suggested (converting items into Services) afterwards, but I feel like that is always an unnecessary extra step. I hope my idea as a "feature request"  garners enough interest and attention to be implemented into an update for the existing software. I also hope there are many more users out there that utilize Square Invoices for their businesses, that are also Service-Based Businesses.

 

 

Question to you: in your suggestion for modification of "item settings" where you change the default item type to "other".... Where exactly is that option, as I don't see it ?

@Newthomas oops! Thought I submitted my reply to this. That's so weird. I accessed it through the Dashboard > Items > Item Defaults.

 

I wonder if there is a setting somewhere. I checked in my business settings and didn't see anything there.

personally this annoys the heck out of me. I spent alot of time entering and customizing my "items," and when i need to manually enter descriptions in the browser it always wants to make new items, and it drives me insane.

Hey @TurtleShell! Can you expand or provide a screenshot of this scenario? I don't think I quite follow. If the items are already in your catalog, it shouldn't be prompting you to add a new item if you're editing the description. If you can expand, I'd be happy to help troubleshoot!  -Tyler
