Discount with multiple conditions - customer group and item

Hello

trying to apply variable discount amount to each separate item, only if the member group matches

I have a lamington retail at $5 and I want a discount of $2 if customer is part of a member group 
I have a donut retail at $5 and I want a discount of $1 if the customer is part of a member group
I have a vanilla slice retail at $6 and I want a $3 discount if the customer is part of a member group

Square doesn’t currently allow automatic per-item discounts based on customer groups. You can apply automatic discounts to entire categories or carts, and even target specific customer groups. But applying different discount amounts to different items based on membership requires a workaround. This is definitely a great feature request. I am going to provide an outline for the workaround in the meantime. 😄

Use Manual Discounts + Customer Groups

Create Customer Group: "Members"

• Go to your Square Dashboard

• Go to Customers > Groups

• Create a group called Members

• Add customers to this group manually or based on rules (e.g., email domain, tags, purchases)

Create Item-Specific Discounts

Go to Items > Discounts, and create these:

Discount Name	Type	Amount	Applies To
Lamington Member Discount	Fixed amount off	$2	Specific item: Lamington
Donut Member Discount	Fixed amount off	$1	Specific item: Donut
Vanilla Slice Discount	Fixed amount off	$3	Specific item: Vanilla Slice

When creating the discount:

• Select “Specific Items” under Apply discount to

• Choose the relevant item

• Name the discount clearly 

Apply Discounts During Checkout

This part is manual unless you use Square for Retail with advanced rules:

• At checkout, add the customer (who must belong to the Members group)

• Apply the corresponding discounts to the applicable items

Thanks for getting back to me

It worked, I had to toggle the automatic discount on, create the specific item discount, and the toggle the automatic discount off.

At check out the different discounts are displayed to select, so this part is manual to select. Adding customer didn't add any extra functionality on top of what it normally does.

We have Square for Retail at our business but we only have the 'Basic Retail PoS" $0. 

Would using Square Plus Plan $109 give us more options with advance rules to automatically apply variable item discounts when a member scans their bar code.
