Allow categories to have different availability from the menu availability

Before categories were able to have their own availability but now it is defined by the menu availability. allow categories to have their own availability time.

Also make menus and categories on the menus able to be rearranged please.

Hey there! 👋 I totally get where you’re coming from — category-level availability can be a game changer, especially when you're offering products or services that aren't available 24/7 or switch up seasonally.

You're right — in past versions, categories could have their own availability. But with the recent updates tying everything to menu availability, some flexibility has definitely been lost.

+1 to your suggestion on both bringing back individual category availability and making menus/categories rearrangeable. I’ve run into the same scenario when trying to time-limit seasonal offerings or reorder items for clarity — and it would be super helpful to have that control again!

In the meantime, a couple of workarounds you might try:

  • Duplicate menus: Create multiple menus with different availabilities (ex: "Lunch," "Evening Menu," or "Seasonal Offers") and assign items accordingly.

  • Hide/show items manually: Not ideal long-term, but can give you temporary control.

  • Feedback form: Be sure to also submit this directly via Square's Feedback tool in the Dashboard under Settings > Feedback — it goes straight to the product team! 🙌
