Tips report

Create a way for tipped employees or a manager to pull a tip report on the POS for themselves (the same one I set up on dashboard under custom reports). This is so tipped employees do not have to bother the owner/manager who may be off when they are the only one with access to dashboard to tell them their C Card tips at the end of the shift. I know this has been requested for at least 5 years now and should have always been available as it's a basic function that a restaurant needs. Perhaps you could just give us a tick box under reports in dashboard so we can check it if we want team members to have access to those reports on the POS. We should not have to and it's unacceptable in a POS system to give an employee and in some cases a manager access to all of your functions as an owner just so they can pull up a tip report. Thanks

Hi @GK3 - I appreciate you stopping by to share such a great feature request with our developers.

While this is not currently planed, putting the request here, is an awesome start for getting your request some visibility. The ideate board is a great place for it. The more sellers that share the same request that contribute to the post will be helpful in getting this implemented more promptly. 

 

I'm happy to provide you with updates as they are passed down from our engineers. 

If you have a restaurant where the servers pool tips and collect their credit card tips in cash at the end of the shift, you need a way for those servers to see the total credit card tips for their shift. The normal way this is done in my experience with other systems is either by running a "tip report" (just shows tips for that server, or in my case like many others, the one common login that all of the servers use), or by devoting a tiny portion of the transactions page to show a running total of tips for the day. I think there are many ways to do this. It's really just one number that a server needs to know to tip themselves out. Total tips.

Currently the only way to do this in square restaurants as far I can tell, is to allow your servers to run a sales report which shows them not only total sales for the day, but the total amount of cash expected to be in the drawer. The reasons why this is not a good system should be obvious to anyone in this business more than a few minutes. Basically, since there is no way to use permissions to hide that info on the report, you have a choice between tipping your servers at the end of their shift, or doing a blind drop for the cash. You can't have both with square.

Has this ever been fixed? Considering switching POS systems, as I can't figure out how to have employees see a tip report when they close out a drawer (without having access to things they don't need to see). It's standard practice in bars for employees to do a payout from the cash till for credit card receipts at the end of the night.

@GK3 Really? How has this been fixed? I have been pulling my hair out looking for workarounds here. Nothing seems to work. What is the solution? I need my employees to be able to see the running total of tips for the day (or for their shift) without telling them the expected amount of cash in the drawer. How do I do it? I have never seen a system that does not tally the total tips somewhere on the screen, (and doesn't group it with sensitive info many businesses don't share with their employees for good reason) until I met square. Please tell me I just missed it, and there is a way to run a tip report or see total tips from the pos without having access to cash reporting.

Edit>> Well, re-reading your post, I see that it might be an acceptable solution for you if a manager can pull that report at the end of every shift. Perhaps this problem has been "fixed" that way. That will not be a solution for us.

I'm using Square Restaurants Plus and Square register that may make a  difference. But yes once a server has closed their checks they can run a shift report and see the tips earned.

Yes. But this is only a solution if you 1) have the "reopen checks and keep method of payment " setting toggled off (making it basically impossible to reopen checks) and 2) if you, like us and many QSR, have one or 2 servers for the whole day, and you don't mind sharing with them the expected amount of cash that should be in the drawer at the end of their shift.

 

I have found a workaround. It is foolish but it is working. Basically as long as the servers download the team app, they can see their tips in real time on that without seeing cash drawer totals. So I have them checking their phones to tip out.

All this because their is no tip report available or a simple tally of total tips on the transactions page.

I agree with you @GK3! Square is definitely lacking in the tipping reporting for employees. They should be able to see how much money they have made at any point in the night without having access to any advanced features. It is standard in most POS applications and Square has dropped the ball and does not seem to care.
