Is there a way to NOT allow discounts on specific items?

Is there a way to NOT allow discounts on specific items?

I give my staff a discount on products but I do not want to allow a discount on travel size items.  Is there a way to mark them so they can not be discounted?

Re: How do I restrict all discounts on purchases of alcohol?

It sounds like you would like the ability to restrict specific items from discounts, @burrito 🌯
While this is not currently possible, you are able to select the categories and items that discounts apply to.

  1. I would first recommend creating a category from your Dashboard to house all of your alcoholic beverages in.

  2. Next, you'll create or edit a discount via your Discounts page.
While here, toggle ON the Discount rules option in the Automatic discount section:

  3. You'll want to select the Item or category option in the pop-up that appears here:

  4. Next, you can select all categories that you would like the discount to apply to.
Be sure not to select the category you created for your alcoholic beverages!

Please let us know if this isn't quite what you were looking to do, and we can dig in a bit more

Hi @salon208 — welcome to the seller community! ✌🏻

Thanks for surfacing this. Currently, we don't offer the option to restrict discounts on specific items, though I can see how this feature would be helpful for many businesses like yours.

I'll be sharing your suggestion with our Product Liaison team, who is constantly working to improve our products based on seller feedback. We'll certainly circle back with any other developments that may be useful.

Please keep in touch for updates and if you have any other questions, let us know!

👋Welcome to the Seller Community, @FancyFeather!

Are you looking to apply percentage discounts or dollar amount discounts? At this time, dollar amount discounts can only be applied to an entire sale. For more information on applying percentage discounts to specific items have a look here: Apply Discounts.

Is it still the case that there is no way to restrict discounts to specific items? We run a Christmas Tree Lot and have discounts available but only for specific sizes of trees.

Correct. So crazy, that something seemingly so simple hasn’t been corrected.

@dwarner - Currently Item level discounts for the Online Store is a feature we're continuously tracking. We'll update you here if anything changes!

I would like to block discounts from being applied to the purchase of gift cards. Is there a way to do this other than selecting the gift card and toggling off the discount applied to other items? Thanks in advance.

Hey @DrSway. I moved your question to this relevant thread that has workarounds from other sellers when it comes to restricting discounts.

Welcome to the thread......

Whats the deal with this SQUARE??

We need an option to make items as 'non discounted items'???????

You raised your fees. it's time to start earning that money and give a feature than we've been asking for for 3 years now.

Hi Elaine,

For some reason, I never saw this reply to my comment.  So sorry!

We just enter the customer or employees name and add them to the ticket.  Then their specific discounts apply.

So the customer database has a field called "customer type" for example.  We could setup whatever customer types that we need (ie. employee, case club, etc).  Within those customer types, there was another database where we could setup specific discounts based on each category of inventory items.  For example, a customer with a type of "employee" may have category discounts setup of 40% off of food, 30% off of merchandise, etc.  A Customer type of "Club member" may get completely different discounts on those or other item categories.  The register person doesn't need to know what each discount is or if the person is eligible for a discount that way.  All they need is their name and the appropriate discounts apply automatically.

This would also be a great feature, but farther down on our list...We also used to have discounts on item categories that increased with the quantity purchased.  (ie.  buy 12 items in a category per year and get a 20% discount on those items.  Buy 24 items in a category per year and get a 30% discount on those items.)

Also, we have items that NO discounts should apply to as well, just as the original content of this thread requested.  Hope this explains it better.
