Gift Messge and Gift Recipt

Hi, I note in the Square online there is a gift message option available at the item level, however for some businesses this can cause confusion as customers leave multiple messages for each item in their basket but the order can only go to one address. Would it be possible to add a gift message box during the final steps of checkout to cover a single gift message for the whole order? Sometimes customers leave a note in the notes section at checkout asking if we can add a gift message card, but it would be nice to show/highlight we offer a gift message service at checkout. For our business we are missing out on the gifting opportunities for online orders which is massive.

 

We also have customers ask if we can include a gift recipt ie a receipt with details of the transaction but omitting the costs of an order. At the moment gift recipts can only be printed from the POS, however unlike a full recipt this can not be done from Square Online on a regular office printer.

 

Any chance this could be looked at for this years festive season? Many thanks

Thanks @doc_choc for your post and for raising this. Your customer can select the gift option on all the items and leave a note at the checkout if they are purchasing several items as a gift. The item gift option should allow your customers to leave a note for the recipient of the gift and have a gift receipt but this option requires upgrading to the Performance plan. I'm testing this myself and will get back to you with instructions on how to send a gift receipt.

thank you @Emma_ for your help 🙃. The problem we have is when the customer has the option of selecting a gift message card at the item level, the fact that we offer the gift option for free means some customers go a little crazy and take gift cards for each item (some people just like the idea of free and go for a gift message card for all their items) . I could understand this if it was being sent to multiple addresses but at the moment the order can not be broken down to multiple delivery addresses. The only way to avoid is to allow a single message at checkout. Some customers use the notes section at checkout which works but the fact it doesn't say add a gift message we get people asking can we add a gift message, where do we added it, do you offer a gift message etc, it may even loose the sale if people don't ask or can't see where to add the message or have to ask before placing the order. The note section works but sometimes the customer needs to be guided easil

 

With the gift recipt I see you can print a gift recipt from the POS, unfortunately we do not have a POS in our factory where we fulfil the online orders from with the Square Online section on the dashboard. We can print full receipts from there but not the gift recipt. We use other selling platforms like NOTHS and they simply have do you want a gift recipt selector, which when selected by the customer at checkout allows them to add a message and when you print the receipt, it is a recipt with a message and no prices. 

 

Not sure what the solution is but hopefully your testing may offer some insight. Square normally offer good solutions to help make lief easier 😊

Hi @doc_choc, thanks for your patience. I've checked this with my team and unfortunately, there is no option to send an online or SMS gift receipt without pricing information. The print-out receipt for delivery orders only shows the buyer’s message and your return policy without prices. I will share your feedback with our team here. 

 

In regards to the item-level gift options, I see what you mean. Usually, customers are aware that all the items in the cart are delivered to the delivery address entered and they can see that there is no option to place several gift orders with several delivery addresses at once. If there is confusion, you can add a description to your items to make this clear. I'll share with our team your feature request to add a gift option at the checkout. Thank you @Emma_  for the information and looking in to a little more closely. We'll keep looking our side at work around for the printing of gift receipts. We have tried your idea on the gift message, but unless it's controlled some customers still like to push buttons and see what they can squeeze out of a system/website, even if they don't really need it. Its a bizarre enjoyment for some to find loopholes in websites.   

 

Just on the gifting market it is absolutely huge and growing, not just here in the UK but globally. Three of the largest gifting markets have an estimated market size to be worth >£100bn in the USA, >£30bn in the UK and >£100bn in Japan.

 

Any gifting feature ideas the community has might be worth exploring, they are great at suggesting innovative ideas to keep Square at the front. It's what makes Square great taking these ideas and adding the Square touch!
