Feature Request: Option to Create Invoice with Zero Balance

Feature Request: Option to Create Invoice with Zero Balance

Because I use square to track my inventory, I need to be able to create an invoice that has a zero balance (for a few reasons).  First, if I am donating product, I need to track that through square. I also want a hard copy record of this donations.  Secondly, if I do a product trade with someone, I want to indicate that on my invoice (again to track my inventory). When I have done this, square tells me that inovices need to be at least $1.  WHY???

Re: Feature Request: Option to Create Invoice with Zero Balance - Status changed to: Not currently planned

👋 Hello @sophiacoffee@agrishield@biggameink, and all the others who have stopped by to share this idea over the years. I understand how frustrating it can be to provide your product feedback and not hear back about the status. I am very grateful however, that @Leanna_CYB shared the following workaround:

"If you use the mobile app to “checkout” instead of creating an invoice, you can apply a pre-created comp to the item and it will allow you to check out with $0.  This is what I’ve been doing so that it will remove the item from my item library and the record will show in your Transactions.”

I can also confirm that this feature request is not currently planned by our Product team, so I am going to go ahead and change the status of the post and close it out. We will absolutely keep everyone posted here in the community if this decision changes. We really appreciate your patience and understanding, and please feel free to message me directly with any further questions!

Same here! I need zero invoices to track donations for the recipient and myself. I need to print the invoice for my team so they know the order to create. Fingers crossed they address this one soon.

I can reiterate the need for $0 invoices. If it's just a little coding for Square, please make this adjustment! We're a retail nonprofit and this is a great way for us to communicate with our outsourced accountant and other stakeholders exactly what is happening with products and goods. The POS workaround is "fine" but the invoice would allow us a more robust documentation system!

Please add me to the list of "customer" requesting the 0 balance invoice for better record tracking.  I am a photographer who often provides service for charitable organizations.  I need to provide more detail for my record purposes.  When can we expect to see this feature added?

Thanks for adding your vote for this feature request, and providing some additional context here @danglassphoto!

I've made a record of your feedback today and have also moved this thread to our Feature Request board for Square Invoices so that we can continue to track the demand for this feature with our Product Team.

While I don't currently have a timeline to share here, nor am I able to comment on internal development priorities, we will be sure to update this thread as soon as we have more information to share on this.

I desperately need the $0 balance feature on my invoice.  I send out promo samples of my product to influencers and buyers and some need to know the price of each product. I am not charging because it is also a marketing tool. Please update to include this feature!

thanks

Please add me to the list of customers that need $0 Invoices. I am a service based business with minimal products and I use invoices over POS because I need services tracked to each client and a record of their services. I could also really use the ability to comp/void invoices without deleting them for this same purpose.

I also need the ability to create $0 invoices. We get lots of requests for donations and I prefer invoicing these for my records, accounting, and taxes. Plus, the invoice shows the recipient the cost of the goods they are receiving (I add each item, then do a 100% discount on the total).

The last time I did a donation, I created the invoice as a draft, previewed the PDF, saved the PDF, then emailed it to the non-profit recipient for them to sign and return. Very cumbersome. And now I have this draft invoice stuck in my list of active invoices because Square will not allow me to archive a draft. 😒

It's been over five years since $0 invoices were first formally requested here. It seems every time I encounter a problem or deficiency with Square, I come here and find out the problem was first raised 5-6 years ago with still no resolution. Is anyone at Square paying attention? 😠

Yes, and for those who say that we should do it with a sale process, we can't do that because often we need to type lengthy descriptions of the service provided.

When we go to do a warranty repair for free, we typically type detailed descriptions and take pictures of the service provided. This doesn't have space on the sales receipt for this.

Please allow zero sums for invoices! Please!

Hey there, @TrueBlueLeak -

That’s an excellent feature request. We appreciate you sharing your business use case and why it would be valuable for you.

If you know of any fellow Seller Community members who would like to see this built out as well, feel free to tag them in your post so they can share their thoughts as well! The more sellers chime in to the request, the more likely it is to catch our product team's eye.

I use invoices to track open service tickets that i need to do. I dont know what products or labor i am charging until i see the job in person so would be handy to save an invoice without anthing on it.

Also I do some trade outs and would be handy to be able to zero and invoice out and save it
