Feature Request: Automatically add a bottle deposit

Feature Request: Automatically add a bottle deposit

I found the feature has been requested, but it doesn’t seem like it has been implemented. Since it may have gotten lost in the shuffle, I’ve decided to bring it up again. It looks like it has been requested since at least May 2016.

If the cashier selects a soda bottle, can we have the ability to automatically select the 5 cent deposit, as a non-taxable add-on? We have many cashiers, and the line of customers is often long, and I don’t want to burden them with having to remember to select the deposit as a separate item.

Thank you for reading/listening :).

Re: Feature Request: Automatically add a bottle deposit

Please Implement this ASAP, CRV is a must, along with other types of bottle deposits. The fact that the support responses are workarounds rather than proper feature implementation isnt helpful to sellers who have to deal with these issues on the daily. Lets add automatic crv/bottle deposits to be charged, it can be a simple feature edit in the items, lets make this happen

Feature Request: Automatically add a bottle deposit - or charge CRV in California

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Bottle Deposit

We are opening a cidery and will be selling bottles of hard cider. In Iowa you have to charge a .05 bottle deposit. Is there a way to have this charge automatically added to the sale of a bottle without adding it to the price? i would like it to show on the receipt as a .05 deposit but not have to remember to add to each sale. I guess it would be like a tax but it isn't a percentage and I don't see where I can change a tax from percentage to $.

Thanks for any help.

Frida,

Thank you for replying!  I appreciate that.  To be clear I do not expect a solution right away, development takes time.  But the original request for this was was almost SIX YEARS AGO, and CRV has been a program that has existed since 1987.
I realize that you guys have to focus on the shinier features to keep up/ahead of the competition, but it should be at the expense of completely ignoring quality of life updates like this.

I would like to add my voice to this discussion.  We are a deli located in Canada and will be carrying milk in glass bottles.  We need a way to attach a flat dollar amount deposit to each purchase of milk. We also need a way to refund that deposit when customers return their empty bottles.

@Frida, hello.  Do you have any updates?  We'd really like this to work soon.  Six Plus years is long enough....

Thank you in advance!!

Hi @TheCrazyAxe

I'm not sure if this work around has been mentioned yet, but would a service charge work for you? Please have a look at the guide I linked when you have a chance, and let us know.

Thanks!

We tried the service charge, but it's limited to 1 per transaction.  We almost always sell more than 1 bottle or can at a time.

Hi @TheCrazyAxe - Welcome back to The Seller Community 😊

Great Observation. I totally understand your concern.

I'll be happy to move this over to a feature request board so that our engineers have visibility of your suggestion. We appreciate you sharing your request. While there is no time frame for when it will be implemented, i'm happy to make sure our engineers have eyes on your request.

As always, feel free to stop by The Community with question, concerns and even feature requests. We are more than happy to assist.

@Ria @BernadetteA  where is the feature request area?

I don't have much trust in Square implementing any requests since I see requests for 1/2 Pizza modifiers and bottle deposits from 2018 and 2016 respectively and it is now 2022  (4 and 6 yrs later!) which have still not been implemented.  Can you point me to a list of feature requests that have been implemented over the last 4 years?

@Ria
After SIX YEARS (in just this thread) of people pulling their hair out, being nickeled and dimed not only by Square fees, but by shortcomings like this in the Square design you agree to move it to the "feature request board"?  Six years (again, in just this thread) of this and ONLY NOW are the engineers seeing this?!
Having spent some time in development I have an idea of what this would take to implement.  The only reasonable response from Square at this point is:
"We've acknowledge your frustration and we are sorry we have ignored it for so long.  It has been deemed a top priority by our Development Team and we expect it to be in a functional Beta within a week.  Again, we are very sorry for ignoring this for so long."

Hello,

We will be selling Spirits by the bottle. How do I automatically include the bottle deposit fee on the Printer Receipt?

Thanks

Hello @NancyBea

And welcome to our Seller Community! We're always happy to see new faces.

This is currently a feature request.

I would recommend checking out our Ideate boards and adding your voice to the appropriate thread.
