Does Square offer layaway?

For retail owners and layway tool would extremely useful. I has attempted a make process currently but would love to see this feature added.

Great question, @wh! We don't have a specific layaway feature, but we have had some sellers use our open tickets feature to facilitate layaway sales. The workaround goes like this:

1) Create an open ticket for the item

2) When the customer makes a payment on the item, close out the existing open ticket with their payment

3) Then create a new open ticket with the updated balance

4) Follow this process until the item has been paid off

Here are the details on how the open tickets feature works: http://squ.re/201xf50.

You could also create an Invoice for the upfront partial payment and more Invoices for the balance until the goods are picked up. Here’s how to create Invoices: http://squ.re/1SGkd8s.

@2ndglances, do you have other tips?

Does anyone have a layaway program for their business that incorporates square?

We don't have a specific layaway feature at this time, but take a look at my answer above for more info. on a workaround. Hope this helps!

My question is, do the open tickets need to be closed at the end of every day?  Instead of creating a new open ticket, can we just split payment when people make their deposit, and then continue applying payments until the ticket is paid in full on a later date?  I don't want to have to rekey items or confuse my reports for items sold in each category by creating a new ticket...

I would like to do this as well.  Create an open ticket with inventory items, accept a deposit payment, leave ticket open until payment in full is made. This seems rather basic. Is it not possible?

Hi my question is, if I have a customer that orders something and lets just say its $100 but the customer want to pay$30 now and pay the other $70 at a later date. How would I go about doing that and give them a receipt stating they payed $30 but still owe $70

We don't have a way to take deposits at this time, but I think the steps outlined at the top of the post using Open Tickets should help you!

How can I process a layaway or a special order - how can write an order and a layaway?

Hello George,

I think I understand the open ticket part to deal with the deposit % or layaway type transaction, what I don't quite get is how do I do this when my inventory is being managed by the tickets... when we close out the ticket for the first transaction, does it not minus the goods from my stock/inventory?

Example: I customize shirts...

1. You order 1000 red shirts $1 each with your company's name,

2. You need to make a 50% deposit to start.

3. I open a ticket for 1000 shirts (becuase I want it to update my stock)-

4. Each shirt cost $1 you pay half $500... how do I do that and not subtract anything from stock until you pay the balance?
I can't figure it out.
