You can create modifier sets from the Items section of your online Square Dashboard. There isn't a way to rearrange the orders of modifiers in a set, or rearrange the order of the set.
However, if you've set up required and non-required modifier for a specific item you will see in the Restaurants app that Non-required modifiers will be grouped first, with those modifiers listed alphabetically; and below you'll see Required modifiers and an alphabetize list of those modifiers. The video in this Support Center shows how modifiers appear in the app (3:35).

I tried this - and no matter what I label the modifier set (put a Z in front of the name, etc) it always stays on the top. We are a cafe that serves omelets, I include 3 fillings and the extras are 75 cents. So, I created an "Extra omelet fillings" modifier set and when I apply it to the omelet, I see it at the top.
So, I label it:
1. Extra omelet fillings
10. Extra omelet fillings
Z. Extra omelet fillings
Doesn't change the order of it in my item.... so the first thing my employees see is "Extra omelet fillings" instead of seeing the included ones first...and my customers end up getting charged extra by mistake.
HELP - this would be so nice to have fixed for both our sandwiches, omeletes, and all our other categories also...
@TheBarnCafe I've had some luck with re-creating new version of the modifier groups and deleting the old ones, and them then going in the number/letter order
Hi, I read the instructions re:rearranging modifiers. My problem is that I don't see the bars on my ipad in order to rearrange the modifiers. (this is in Square for Restaurant).

How has this not been implemented? Sellers have been asking for this (according to this thread) for THREE YEARS. It cannot be that hard. Time (scrolling down for a modifier) is money!
This is incredibly frustrating. They don't fix the modifiers issue in Square, then want you to sign up for Square for Restaurants at a monthly fee and boast "advanced modifiers" --which, according to the videos, doesn't allow me to do what I want to do. For example..adding upcharges. Good luck. Your staff has to REMEMBER to upcharge for a certain item, there's no way to make it give 3 toppings and automatically start charging $.75 cents per topping after the 3rd topping. Sounds like I'll be looking for another POS system.
@TheBarnCafe We are also looking at other POS systems because of this. And the recent swipe rate change of 2.5% plus 10 cents really just when you're a coffeeshop. It puts my effective rate up as high as 8% on just a cup of coffee where the old cost was just the 2.75%. we liked Square but now it's getting so we need to consider other solution
Totally agreed. I want to eventually implement online ordering and delivery but square does not really do any of that well either So I'm hoping to find a solution that does all of that. But boy, the mixed reviews of all systems (square included) has been enough to make me not do anything at this point.
