The structure of the information architecture, the navigation systems, and search functionalities are not supporting optimal product findability. The customer's ability to find a product is paramount to any Ecommerce business — after all, customers can’t buy a product if they can’t find it.
Currently Square Online offers the ability to create custom attributes, but they are used solely for the purpose of 3rd party integrations. There are soo many missed opportunities here and it makes Square unviable for any business with more than a couple hundred products. Ideally, I'd like to see attributes set up the same way Magento does it.
Where Square Custom Attributes are falling short:
1. Attributes don't display on product pages.
2. Attributes can't be used to filter products. I just saw an announcement or thread update from Square the other day praising how they had added more "sort" features. I want to be VERY clear that filters and sorting are two entirely separate things.
I've seen other threads where Square representatives have told people to use categories instead. Which is the WRONG thing to do. You should NEVER go more than two categories deep when creating a category architecture. Why? Because Google doesn't like it when you don't follow their rules. Ex. Pants > Jeans - After that, you would want to filter the jean style, size, wash, etc.
3. Can't use attributes to search.
4. Can't use attributes for promo code/discount rule set up.
5. You can't import/export attributes. HUGE problem.
I believe these are all of my "suggestions." But I will post additional comments if I find or think of anything else.
These features need to be developed ASAP because right now, Square Online is incapable of handling "real" eCommerce. At this time, if a company has more than 200 products, I will NOT use Square Online as their eCommerce host.
