"Select your location before adding items to your cart" message when building my site

Hey folks,

I run a hot dog cart style business and am attempting to streamline my ordering process. I'm building an online ordering site so folks can walk up, scan a QR code and enter their own payment info while I can cook and prepare their meal. However when testing my site and attempting to add an item to my cart I receive a "select your location before adding items to your cart" error and can't seem to figure out how to remedy this. Any advice would be super appreciated, I'm sure it's something simple but I feel like I'm chasing my tail right now.

Thanks a bunch

Solution

I just found the solution via chat with Support! The problem was caused by not having my fulfillment options set up on the site level (not the item level). You do that at https://squareup.com/dashboard/fulfillment/preferences/pickup-delivery

Good luck!

Hi @wienersystem.  This one stumped me for a while, too.  I only have one location and found this to be highly frustrating and redundant.  I happened upon the solution totally by accident!  To delete the store location, edit your website.  Click on the list of web pages drop down and scroll until you find “Store Locator.”  Delete this page.

If you open a new location, you can always add it back in the future.  But, to be certain, I’d recommend an even safer option — don’t delete that page, but rather rename it to something like “unused Store Locator.”  Then you can just rename it back should you need it in the future.

Hey @TheRealChipA,

Thanks for the quick and thoughtful response! I wish I could say it worked out for me, and it's definitely possible that I'm not looking in the right place, but when I go to find a "Store Locator" page I don't seem to see it anywhere. I'm afraid that when building my site I was a little too... aggressive and might've made some moves that are now biting me in the rear end. I've been staring at the computer for a little too long today so might call it and start fresh tomorrow. I know what I'm attempting to accomplish is super simple and I'm over complicating it.

Thanks

Zak

Ok. Don’t forget that if you have more than 10(?) pages you might have to click the Show More button to see another 10, etc.

If worse comes to worst, reach out to the Square Customer Success Team using one of the methods here (phone probably best).

You know what, I don't want to speak too soon but things are working for the time being. I realized that I had selected both "Buy Now" and "pickup" options and they weren't getting along. Ultimately I won't need pickup sales since I'll only be taking face to face orders for the time being. Thanks a bunch for your advice, it helped me push through when I wanted to shut my laptop for the night.

I’m very happy to hear that it was that easy (more or less. Lol).  I hope it is smooth sailing from here!
