most economical device for events?

We do not want people to use their phones. Some of our older iPads are not compatible with the app - or with the reader plug - or both. Do we need to bite the bullet and get new iPads? They are pricey.

If phones are not an option then opt for iPads or Android Tablets (as long as they have Google Play Services and are running the latest version of Android) Do keep in mind that if you currently use a Square Stand and you're planning on replacing your current iPads, the older Stand will not work with them.
