can I disable an item

Is there a way to temporarily disable/hide an item or series of items that we're not currently using? For example, we only sell Christmas cookies by the dozen at Christmastime. I really don't need to see this item in my list the rest of the year.

@jawhalen Are you looking in your square online dashboard or just in the point of sale?

If it is the point of sale, you can go into the item in the online dashboard and remove the location that is assigned to.  I am not sure this will work if you have only 1 location.  The online dashboard you can use the filters to pare down what you have to look at.  In the app, there is not an "inactive" style list to hide those things.  You could always make a category starting with a letter like Z and assign them to that category so they are at the bottom of the list and you don't have to worry with them in your main categories.

I’m talking about the point of sale app. (Checkout) We only have 1 location. All the items appear alphabetically regardless of category. How can I utilize the  categories in checkout?

@jawhalen You can actually pull the categories over into favorites/item grid.  When you tap the category it will bring the list of just the items in that category up.

Let me ask another question and then I can point you in the right direction:  What device are you using the point of sale app on?  ipad, phone, android?

@jawhalen    Ok, make sure that under settings and checkout you are using the new point of sale experience.

From there you can go to the favorites screen and press and hold a square and then add a category to that square.  When you hit that category it will bring up a list for you.  This can make it much faster to find items for you.

You can see here how when I bring up a category I get a nice short list to pick from.

Hope this helps,
