Will a customer automatically receive an email or text that they have a birthday reward?

If the customer's birthday is in the system, will they automatically receive an e-mail or text that they have a birthday reward?  How long is the reward good for - 1 week - 2 weeks?  Or is that something we set up in the loyalty program?
