Wild Card Search for embedded data string

Is there an ability to do a wild card search for a data string from the 'search by name, description, or sku' input field on the Item, Item Library screen?

I can find items or sku's by beginning or end of the string characters, but need to find a string of characters that are embedded in the item or Sku.  Is there an ability to do this?

Hello @Healhaven

Unfortunately there's not a way to search a string of numbers within a SKU. Would this be helpful to you because you have multiple items with the same beginning and ending numbers on their SKUs? Just trying to gather some more information so that it can be relayed to our Product teams.

Thanks in advance!

Nika,

Yes - the ability to search for text with in a string would be very helpful with in the an item, sku or variation name.  The scenario is in the variation item name string, we are embedding the mfg, color, style and key feature and would like to be able to search on to see if there are any available in stock.  For instance, BPLGTGRAYMOLDEDCRIMP - This would be Bill Power, Light Gray Molded Model Crimped End - we want to be able to search on Gray or Molded to see all variations that are in stock that are gray.  If we could execute a search *GRAY* it would show all items with GRAY in the name.

Does that make sense?

Hey @Healhaven thank you for the example! I'm going to step in for Nika today to help get you your answer quickly. That is currently a feature request to be able to search within a string and have the item library pull up all items associated with "gray," but I can definitely surface this with engineering as a feature request.

The only workaround to this would to break up the string into separate words. For example, if I have an item named "Cut of Bacon" and I search "of" then it will bring up the item, but if I search "acon," then as you know, nothing comes up. I imagine this would not work well for all of your items, but it is something to consider.

You can also create variations for all of these items, or include the colors, etc., in the item description so the item names aren't as long.

I hope these tips help, but as always, let me know if you have any other questions!
