Why was I charged 19 cents for a $1.00 "test" transaction that I processed via a Square Reader?

Did you actually use your reader or enter the numbers manually? 19c would be the fee for a manual $1.00 transaction (15c plus 3.5%). A swiped charge would only cost you 3c. You can refund the payment and get the whole $1.00 back since it was just a test.

I actually did swipe my debit card since I wanted to make sure the Reader was working properly.  I will try the refund route!  Thanks much for your speedy reply and advice!
