Where can I find CLEAR directions for creating or modifying an Online Store?

Pardon a bit of a rant, but ...

 

I first set up our online store a couple of years ago and found the process fairly simple, but the new system isn't. We've essentially been on the road for some time, but the current environment has us going back online as a primary sales area.

 

I remember the days when I created small sites by writing code; if the process wasn't "cut and paste", it was at least well-documented which the new Square, in my experience, isn't.

 

The FAQ's are thin to say the least and the videos I've followed links to are either promotional hype or YouTube pieces that are too small or too fast (or both) to follow. I've searched in vain for detailed written directions on the Square site itself on how to create a store in the new format or how to modify one that's not working as desired or how to start all over if that's what's desired.

 

Finally, I am concerned that Square is going in the direction of Intuit QuickBooks where "support" is palmed off on the user community without much company commitment to a better level of support itself internally.

 

Right now, I'd settle for answers to my title question.

Thanks for writing in and expressing these concerns. That's certainly not the impression or experience we want you to have of our Support Team, or of the new Square Online Store.

 

I want to make sure I understand what you're trying to edit or modify, so please feel free to reply to my post with more specific questions. 

 

As a Square employee, I also had to create my own Square Online Store for demonstration purposes. I found the easiest way to design it/get comfortable with it was to follow the Set Up Guides:

 

 

At the very least, it takes you to the correct area of your site to edit the design, item placement, and layout. More helpfully, Square developed a Create and Manage Items Online page which I found to have very concise instructions. In addition to that, here is a Support Article  on the initial set up of the Square Online Store if you aren't interested in one of our Webinars.

 

Ultimately, if you're still unsure about your Square Online Store and it's set up, please don't hesitate to call us. Sometimes it's just easier to get support/have things explained via phone. If you call Square and ask to speak to a Square Online Store specialist, they will be able to see your site on the back-end and help you get more comfortable with it's system.
