I’m a hairdresser and I use the automatic sales tax on the square app. When doing my taxes this year, I was asked if square sends Sales tax off. Which is my question? Or instead of using the added tax should I just charge a basic fee to run peoples cards on my square?
Square does not manage sales taxes at all. You will need to get with your local city, county, or state to figure out the taxes you need to charge and how to pay them. And take it from experience, don't get the tax man mad at you. It rarely ends well. o_0
As for passing along the processing fees, check around. A lot of states don't allow you to charge more for a processing fee.
Thank you I’m actually learning and trying to run my business correctly so I’m taking the taxes I charge out of each transaction and saving. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn’t be taken once from square and myself.
That's the best way. In fact, I recommend rounding up a little bit. If you have $26 in taxes for the day, save $30. That way a slow day or two through the month doesn't put your back against the wall.
Happy selling! 🙂
Can you please tell me how to retrieve my collected sales tax info through the app? I just need to get a report on the dollar amount I have collected in a given quarter so I can report and pay it. Thanks in advance!
Hi @Dawnie,
The app will only provide general sales reports. We recommend accessing your tax data through the online dashboard on a computer at squareup.com.
