At our cafe, if we run out of an ingredient, we need to make items that require that ingredient temporarily invisible on Square online ordering so we don't get orders for the item. Example, if we run out of peanut butter, we'd need to temporarily turn off Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich online.
Our barista needs to be able turn these items on or off for online. We don't want to give the barista full control over items: that could lead to accidental deletion of items. So we'd like to offer "online off" or "online on" without full control.
What's the best way to handle this from Square Register?
I started this thread.
I forgot to say that we're using Square POS on Square Register.
We're not interested in switching to Square for Restaurants, which has its own solution for items that are temporarily unavailable.
Following. Good question.
You can hide the peanut butter and jelly sandwich but that action can't be done from POS, only the Online Store Dashboard. Check out my best answer for steps.
Even then, the permission to hide an item online grants your barista the ability to manage/edit anything in the Online Store. It's an all or nothing permission.
Aside from hiding the item we have turned on the inventory tracking for the item and set the qty to "0". That way it still shows on the store so people know we usually have it but they can't order it. We have hid some things that we simply won't have available for a while but others we may just use this method.
Thanks for chiming in @vhovar! Your way works too 🙌
