What causes the plug to stop working?

I continue to have problems with my square stand. The problem I'm currently having now is my square stand is not charging my ipad. The plug is not working. This will be my 3rd plug for the same device.

Bummer. Do you have the correct iPad for the stand? Some models may fit but not quite rightly which would explain why it is not charging. Does your iPad charge normally if it is outside the stand? Depending on the answers you may need a new stand.
