Using Square to track borrowed inventory

We operate a "Library of Things", from which our customers can borrow tools and other equipment, like you would borrow books from a regular library.

We use Square to handle payment of membership fees, as well as other types of sales.

I'd like to explore ways to use Square to track which member borrowed which items. I understand Square can't handle due dates etc. That's ok.

Can I set the price for certain items at 0 and still ring up a transaction? I'm hoping to be able to send a receipt by email, showing the item borrowed.

And when a borrowed item is returned, would I be able to return it to the inventory list that Square manages? Maybe in the same way I would handle returned merchandise from a regular sale?

Does anybody have experience, recommendations, or suggestions for managing inventory in this way, with Square?

Thanks so much.

Hello @mikesclub

You can set an item for $0 dollars and you can adjust your inventory to reflect the return. I'd recommend adding a note to these transactions so you can see who borrowed each item and when it's supposed to be returned by. We don't have notifications to track overdue items, but you can use this method to keep track of what you lend out. 🙂
