Square Loyalty -> Does it work with landline phones too? Can we transfer stars from one # to another

1. We have had several customers give us their landline phone (unbeknownst to us) to earn their stars.  Now that some of them are 4 or 5 stars in, some even more (10 are required to get something free), they're wondering why they haven't gotten notified.   They are also curious if they will receive a redemption code some other way, like email perhaps, since they aren't getting notified on the mobile phone each time they check in.  Do you know?

2. Can we transfer stars from someone's home phone number to a new mobile number in the system so they don't lose stars they've already earned?

Hi @AllAboutGolf - welcome to the 👥 community!

Your customers don't need to use a mobile number to be able collect stars. The Point of Sale app will update their start total from the signature window at the end of the payment flow.

If your customers would like to update their number, you can help them do this in your Customer Directory from the Point of Sale app.

To edit their phone number:

  1. Open the app, then tap the three horizontal lines.
  2. Tap Customers, then tap All Customers.
  3. Search for your customer by their name or current phone number, then tap their name.
  4. Click Edit Personal Information, then update their phone number.
  5. Tap Save.

Please note, editing a customer’s phone number will remove all stars that were associated with that number, but you can immediately reissue them once the number has been updated.

To adjust their earned stars:

  1. Scroll to Loyalty, then tap Edit.
  2. Use the + / - tool to edit their number of stars.
  3. Tap Save.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about using Square Loyalty or redeeming customer rewards

Hi,

We just converted to Square POS from pcAmerica.  We used their loyalty program (they use points vs. stars) and it worked very well - our customer's loved it.  Square was very helpful with the conversion and imported our customers that had phone numbers.  Unfortunately, that is only about 1/4 of our customer base.

-We have customers that will not provide phone # or email addresses (we looked up by last name)

-Each receipt would should the number of points the customer had accumulated

-The system automatically applied the discount to the next transaction with the customer

I guess my biggest question is how does the system notify a customer (or sales associate) how many stars the customer has or that the customer has earned a reward?  I can't imagine having to research that before each transaction.  There is not much documentation, and from what I can tell it seems like it is only via email or text?  Many of our customers are seniors , only have land lines, don't use email, etc.  But the DID keep their receipt and would actually come in excited that they were about to reach the next reward.

Will the Loyalty program only work with customers that have smart phones or email?

Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks!

This reply was created from merging an existing thread: “Loyalty - just converted from another POS system”

Hello and welcome to the Seller Community and Square Loyalty @welldressedfood!

I've moved your post here so you can see Russell's Best Answer above. Your customers can use a landline number to enroll in Square Loyalty! Russell's post also has information about how you can look up the number of stars a customer has earned from the Point of Sale app.

But you are right, if your customers are not receiving email or SMS notifications about their rewards looking them up each time they visit could take up a lot of time. If your customers do provide their email address for a receipt, their reward status is displayed at the bottom of the receipt (check out this post for preview). This is certainly something to consider if the majority of your customers don't use email!

Hi Helen - Thanks for the reply!

I agree with AllAboutGolf that an option to have the information sent via e-mail in addition to or instead of a text.  I'm wondering if that is on their development radar?

Also, it would be great if the system would put the current reward status on the bottom of the printed receipt for the customer - our old system did that and people really got excited and would look for it.  That way they would at least know to ask on their next visit.

Thanks again!

David.

Hey @welldressedfood - Taking over for Helen here.

Unfortunately, we don't have an ETA on if or when a feature like this might be implemented. However, we will definitely continue to pass on the feedback to our Product Team especially if other Sellers chime in on this thread. 👍🏼
