Square Chip Card Reader does not read cards over half the time

My chip card reader fails to read the customer's credit card over half the time and I end up having to plug in the older style card reader onto the headphone jack to complete the transaction. It's embarrassing, making me look inept in front of my customer. Can I get a replacement? Is this par for the course with these devices?

I looked at past discussions and they talk about removing device cover to get better contact.  This is NOT a contact device but Bluetooth.  It is paired just find and it does work fine about 25% of the time.  But it has trouble reading cards and tells me to retry over and over again, finally culminating in asking me to plugin the scan card reader into the headphone port and read the card that way.  This always works.  But I cannot start with the scan card reader because Register complains the it is a chip card and makes me go through the exercise of trying the contactless reader first.

Sorry to hear about the trouble with the reader, @dhirsohn; that definitely shouldn't be the case.

First, refer to our troubleshooting steps that Kelly provided in this post, if you haven't already.

As she mentions, if those don't do the trick, we can definitely get it replaced for you. Feel free to contact us if you'd like a hand with troubleshooting as well!

I posted the original.  Over a year ago.  Problem was, indeed, resolved by following the steps outlined by the support staff.  I think I just reset everything.
