Pair wireless reader to multiple phones

My wife and I have iPhones. We can pair our contactless reader to either of our phones, but not to both at the same time. 

Is it possible?  If so, we have not been able to do it.

the readers are a one to one connection and cannot be paired to multiple devices at the same time for encryption and security reasons.
