Marking order status after sale complete

I feel as though I already commented on a thread about this, but was unable to find it with several searches, so perhaps I intended to and didn't. If I did, it would be nice if I could see a list of my comments or threads in my account. (Let me know if I can't and just don't know how.)

To the point...

In my search, I see there are some nice options in the online store and some workarounds using invoices, but is there any chance a option could be added to the transactions that would allow me to simply check off that an order was shipped?

For many of us, the sale isn't truly completed after payment has been taken. Many of our orders have a shipped item that must be processed. It seems a small thing, but just the ability to click a checkbox or change the status in the transactions list would be so helpful so as not to have to export the transactions to a spreadsheet then mark them in a different application. It wouldn't have to apply to anything in the transaction, not changing the sale in any way. It just lets staff know the order is complete or if not checked then it needs filled/shipped.

I suppose I could try the online store, but it doesn't flow with how we sell and that means training people to use 2 applications to make sales at the desk.

Nice idea,  You can create custom fields in customer management. You could create a shipped field where you put in the date. This would be at the customer level and not the transaction so if they purchase a new item you would have to remove the previous ship date.

I sell  memberships and we enter the expiration date in this way. I can then sort and see who is expiring this month.

Hey @hundleybk - Viewing your profile will allow you to see all of the threads you've created and responded to. 👍🏼

You bring up a great suggestion and I'll make sure to bring it up to our Point of Sale team to consider for future improvements. Hopefully, @RHatch's suggestion is a useable workaround for you in the meantime!

I'm still in need of this option. Is this something being considered? It would be nice if a team member could reach out about this or at least suggest this to the development team. I'm really at a loss in how to work around this effectively. I just want to mark my orders done or not done. There's not even a report that I can export that gives me all the info I need in one place. So, this little item, a simple check-box next to each transaction, would be a game changer for me.

Thanks for checking in on this @hundleybk. I'm afraid I don't have an update on this right now, but I definitely see how a check box in the Dashboard would help!

I'll share this request with the reporting teams and I'll let them know you'd be happy to discuss this in more detail too. Thanks! In the meantime I'll keep an eye out for any workarounds from other sellers.

Has there been any word on this suggestion? This would drastically help our work flow. We're giving square a go in one of our locations and love it for the most part, but this simple fix would allow us to use square in other locations that can't because of the work flow issue. Our best attempts at a workaround just don't cut it . Any news would be appreciated. Has it been brought up for serious consideration or has it not made the list yet ?

Hi @crystalimages

Unfortunately there's nothing new to report around this feature.

What workarounds were you currently using? Can you go into detail about your business locations that need this feature? It would be a huge help to our Product Teams understanding of your business need for this.

We sell photos. I manage one location that has less sales and I am able to keep on top of things. The other locations have more sales and the staff there aren't the best with technology. I need to keep things simple for them. With some sales we complete the order and they get there photos right away. Some orders have to be sent digitally later. Other orders are prints for either pickup or mail. I have set prints as a separate item from digital, and there are modifiers for how we are sending the digital. I have a seperate item for shipping for mail orders and a pick-up item also. This helps me see what i need to do, but I have no way of marking the orders complete/sent without exporting the transactions and using a spreadsheet, which I could do at the end of a day, but it's not practical to do throughout the day as more transactions are being made. There are sometimes too many sales to wait until the end of the day to start processing the orders, it would take too long. If I'm not there on top of it, things get missed. A simple checkbox on the transactions list would be amazing. Then I could check off the orders as I go and know I have them done. (obviously still room for human error, but better than trying to remember) Currently I am going through the transaction list at the end of the day and verifying the orders are complete, or print out orders that need completed later. That's a lot of paper to print and a lot of double/triple.... checking over the same transactions.

Same problem here. I'm using square for my food business and simple having a marking order color in transactions would be extremely helpfull.

We use 1 iPad with the square app at the counter for taking orders and 1 iPad in the kitchen which is always on the transactions tab. For the kitchen ipad we refresh the transaction list for incoming orders so they know what order to make. But the list can be so long sometimes that you lose sight of which orders has been made/done already. Simply being able to give a completed order a color (for example by swiping left or right) from the transactions list would really improve workflow and would let my kitchen staff easily see which orders still have to me made. See example photo. We don't want to use a kitchen receipt printer. This simple feature would improve square use for restaurant businesses a lot.
