I don’t want my customers to gain more loyalty points in a transaction when they are redeeming a reward. Is it possible to change this, and if not, how do others get around it?

This is a good question and I'm sure other sellers are wondering the same thing. Currently your customer can still earn a Loyalty Point if they have a qualifying purchase even if a reward is being redeemed. This is a feature request that we're looking into, but I don't have a timeline I can share for when it might be available.
