Is there any way to override a price in Square?

We are having a large clearance sale this weekend and have reduced many items to flat pricing - i.e. $2, $5, $10. We need to ring in the individual items for inventory purposes, but how can we change pricing when it isnt a straight percentage?

Great question! I haven't heard this request before, but it totally makes sense.

While there isn't a way to override a price, you could consider creating a variable dollar amount discount (as opposed to percentage). When you create the discount, just toggle to the money sign. If you leave the price field blank, when you add it in a sale, it will prompt you to enter a custom amount. Here's a screenshot:

We do what you are describing for our Custom candles.  So what we have done is put an Item as Custom Candle Large, and left the Price Blank.  Then when the Custom candle is rung up we enter the price and it will be deducted from inventory.

That sounds like a good temporary work around, but I still believe a price override should be available.

Yes, def starting to explore new options going into 2023. New small business owner and the lack variable for "manager" account is stupid. I sell furniture and at times I'll will need to adjust pricing for volume discounts and percentage discounts don't work. Again if they want people to use their product and utilize their inventory features this must be addressed for "manager" or "admin" accounts. Just fix it Square, its not that difficult.

I am currently using Square for Retail with version 1 Square Stands and Ipads, not sure what hardware and software you are using.  I just tried this, I scanned in an Item in the Checkout Screen, then Tapped the price by the Item I wanted to Override, and a screen popped up listing all my items that are classified as the Item I scanned.  I scanned a generic 6x6 pillar and all my 6x6 pillar scents popped up in a grid.  I scrolled down to the bottom and there I could apply a Discount but there was another button called Adjust Price.  I tapped that and then a screen popped up to enter the New Price.  Entered a new $ amount and Save.  The original was shown on the Receipt/ticket with a single line through it and the new price I entered showed as the price to pay.  This is dependent on the Hardware you are using I found out.  I tried this on my Android phone and when I long Press the Item amount all I can do is apply a discount or remove the item from the cart.  I knew I saw and Adjust price somewhere.  I am not sure if this is what your looking for for a Price Override though.

So from 2016 until 2023 Square still has not been able to figure out how to do a price override? Get it together guys! I run a small home-based crystal business. I do live sales but still want to track inventory and use a scanner to do invoices for claimed items. When items have sat on the shelf I do sales, often negotiating a price with the customers. This means that when I scan the items into their invoice I need to be able to quickly change the price to what we agreed on during the live sale. I do not have time to change prices on everything in my inventory, nor would that even work. I may have 20 pieces of amethyst but each is already a different price due to size/weight. I want to be able to scan it and change the price or apply a percentage off PER ITEM.... not on the entire invoice. Why after 7 years of people asking for this has it not been created????

Also, I do not want to put items into inventory with a variable price because I use the barcodes that I print to also show the price of the items. BTW, it would also be nice to be able to put the price onto the barcodes without the dollar sign since some online venues will ban you for showing dollar signs.

If you scan an item in for sale or select it to add to a cart, you can tap the item to apply a discount or a Price Adjustment to an item individually.  The only issue with this over a Discount is there is no way to see the drop in price for that sale.  You could create discounts at certain % or certain $ amounts to reduce prices and select the one closest that you offering your customer.

Create a bunch of discounts in increments of 5% or 10%, to get you close if you want to track over a time period how much you gave in discounts.  If this is not needed just tap "Price Adjustment" then enter the agreed upon price.

I am confused as to how a person at an Online Venue is suppose to know the price of an item if the $ sign is not there.  How does the customer know the price and also which currency it is that you are requesting payment in?  If you put 15 for an online price.... maybe I would want to pay with 15 Ruppies which is $0.18 USD  (1 Ruppie = .012 USD) as of 8:55 am Est time....Indian Ruppie to USD .  Sorry , but never heard of an online venue not allowing you to put which currency you are basing your price on.  Also if it is online why would you need to Print out a Label with the Price on the item then?  Could you not just type in the Price without the dollar sign to display online?

My items are not for sale on an online site where I upload data and pictures. It is on a live streaming format. I appear on camera and show each item and discuss it with customers. I do not ring people up with a cash register or POS. When the live stream show is over I create an invoice for each customer. The problem is that when the inventory comes in I put it into the system at an expected price, however, sometimes customers get discounts off certain items, and if I am having a sale then it may be many items, but not all...so I do not want all of their items to get a discount and often they may get 20% off some items, and 30% off other items, and if they purchase a large quantity or something that has been on my shelf for a long time they may get some items that are 50% off. I need to be able to change individual prices of items as I am creating the invoice and not need to go back into the system each time I need to change a price. I don't understand why when this has been asked for over the course of several years it has not yet been created.

All I want is a price override option after scanning an item onto an invoice.

Now with a clearer view of how you want to adjust your pricing in an Invoice and not a POS app. You can adjust each item with its own Discount on an Invoice but there is no way to just edit the price to a set price like you can at the POS.   Not sure if this would be a feature request since Square did make Price Adjustments available on the POS.   But you can add a Discount from the Invoice side for each item not just one discount for the entire invoice.   Since you mention 20%, 30% and 50% off you could create those Discounts then Press Customize by the item in the Invoice which applies the Discount to that Item only.
