I understand how to enter a price and a sale price in Square Online. Is there any way to do that in Square POS? I'm asking because we sell ornaments for example, at sale pricing of $5 in our gift shop (they are normally $10 or $15). And I can enter that sale price of $5 on the online shop - showing customers the regular price and the discount price. However, in our gift shop, I have no way to enter a sale price - I have to change the price from $10 or $15 to $5. But when I do that, I lose the regular price vs. sale price feature online. Here's a picture from our online store - it shows the Pillow Ornament on sale for $5 - but doesn't show a "regular price." To the right of that is the Fox ornament and it DOES show the regular price of $15 and the sale price of $5. But if you come into our gift shop, the POS will attempt to charge you the $15 price. Is there any way to make the price $5 on the POS terminal without making it $5 online?

Hello @stcmuseum
From what I can find, I don't believe there is a way to have a sale price in the regular Point of Sale. The Retail app may be different, but I don't have experience with it to be able to tell you.
I think your best bet would be to create a discount for the $ off of the regular price. In your example, a $5 discount. You could then make the discount an automatic discount so that your team doesn't have to remember to give the discount whenever an item is ordered.
Hope this helps!
I'm having this same issue. It's a pain and totally defeats the purpose of having a "sale price" box in the online store.
I'm not sure the best way to resurface this question/feature request, but it would be super helpful to be able to have a sale price option in the POS, similar to the sale price feature in the Square Online Store. We're running into the same problem as @stcmuseum -- we want to put an item on sale (for example, for one of our Dollar Donut days), but still want people to know the original price of the item and that the current price is a special. If we put in a sale price in the Online Store, it doesn't show up as discounted in the POS, but if we change the price in the POS, it removes the red "Sale" banner in the Online Store.
Our current workaround has been to change the price in the POS, but then write in the Online Store item description in bold: **Dollar Donuts today only!"** or something like that, to let people know. I appreciate @ryanwanner's workaround -- making the discount automatic is a good idea so that team members don't have to remember to manually input it every time (which is what I'm trying to avoid).
I was curious about the "Add Price Override" link that I've started seeing beneath the price in the Variations section of Items in the dashboard. But, when I enter a Price Override and location, it won't let me save -- not sure if I'm doing something wrong there.
Thanks for reaching out here, @odysseyart and @mksavage!
While adding a sale price via the POS is still a feature request, another workaround we can suggest is instead creating a variably priced discount to apply to your items.
You'll want to switch to a $ discount and leave the amount field blank. Whichever items are then added to the sale on your POS can be discounted as required, without impacting the Square Online sale price.
Thanks for that workaround, @Laurie_ ! I just tried it, and it's nice to have a way to quickly add a custom discount. It is still an extra step, which requires our register employee to remember to add it each time. Glad to know that's possible (I had no idea you could enter a variable discount) and will keep an eye out for the sale price feature. Thanks again!
just commenting that I would like this feature as well. wish there was a way I could do a blanket sale price. for example, I want to run a sale in store for $28 wallets. I wish I could do a "discount" or "sale price" that automatically discounts all wallets in a category to $28. Each wallet is priced differently, so I can't do a % or $ discount and it's quite a pain to have to go in and calculate to enter a dollar amount for each sale to get it to show $28. Please add this to Square Retail.
Thank you for adding your use case, and vote to this feature request @greenlotusdream! We'll continue to highlight this with the Square for Retail team for consideration.
It would be extremely helpful to have a Square solution to resolve this issue. Although I am currently using a workaround, it's not a perfect solution as it requires an extra step. Unfortunately, there have been instances where a staff member has forgotten to follow the workaround, resulting in an upset customer who discovered they were charged full price. This situation has led to threats of legal action and complaints to the ombudsman.
