I would like to assign locations to my items on display & my items that are stored. I notice that you can assign resources to services, but not items. Why is that? We have more scan & go or self serve requests now, more than ever before. Assigning locations would be perfect to integrate.
Would you be able to set the Categories as those shelf locations?
Custom Attributes aren't able to show in the Square app. It's just a granular detail shown in the Dashboard at this time.
Being able to see it in the app or a feature like this would be a Feature Request for our Product Team.
I think the best suggestion for now would be to include the location information in either the title or the item description, as you had brought up earlier. You could even abbreviate the locations and create your own physical map - either drawn by hand or using software like Google Docs - with those location abbreviations notated for reference.
For example:
On your map, you could lay out the full text and description of what items are located in a specific area (IE. Display shelves 0 - 9).
You could also include the abbreviation for the location along with the description (IE. DS09 or DSA)
In your item title or description, you could notate the location as DS09 instead of Display shelves 0 - 9.
When a customer purchases an item, your staff would see the abbreviation, match it to the map, and locate the item using the description + physical drawing on the map.
I hope this suggestion makes sense, @alhstudio2021! ✨
Hey there, @alhstudio2021 -
Welcome to the Community! Happy to see a new face.
In the details of the item, you can set their availability to a specific location.
Is that what you're looking for? Or are you looking for something else? I want to make sure we are on the same page.
I will keep an eye out for your reply👀.
I want to set the item to its shelf location(s) inside my studio. I only have 1 studio location. I would like to see my ceramic gnomes show as set to Display shelf 1 A, & the Mold for making them set to Molds shelf G 7 & Pouring table location 1-4. I would have Display shelves 0 - 9, A-E and Mold shelves A -T, 1-12. That is not showing up listed in the custom attributes when I assign them there. The custom attributes do not show up in the item information when you open the square app, or the website item info, for us to see after its assigned to the items. I need to actually see these when I pull up an item in Square to see where it is inside the studio. Can you help?
Thanks,
Kris

I'll try that. I noticed the website separated items by category & I did not like the separation. I'll see what I can do with sub-categories.
Thanks,
Kris
Kassi,
Thank you for your help. I have the categories set to show display locations & it still does not show in the item information in the app after it is saved. I think the only way we can see the info is if we put it in the item description. I appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Kris
Jumping in for @Kassi here, @alhstudio2021! 🎨
Sounds like you found a way to make your Square Online website work for your business model?
I did just want to clarify that resources are a Square Appointments feature - learn more here.
Are you using Square Appointments and offering bookable services?
I have both services & physical items. That's how I noticed resources in one and not the other. I was hoping to have an actual field to assign for item locations inside my studio. The only way to actually see it in the app or the website is to have it in the description. Tanks for the help.
Kris
Hm, I wanna make sure I'm aligned with what you're asking to do here!
It sounds like you're interested in finding a way to map out and locate items physically in your shop after customers place orders online or want to purchase items in-store. Am I on the right track to understanding the end goal here, @alhstudio2021 ~ or totally off-base?
Yes Ma'am,
I have a lot of items displayed & storage. We actually make our ceramic pieces from molds & assigning them shelf locations would be a huge help. Is that something that square offers?
Thanks,
Kris

I'll give it a try with google docs. I was hoping to do an all in one item database. This sounds like the simplest solution.
Thanks,
Kris
