Hi is there a way I can edit or customize when the shipping confirmation is sent out to my customers?
For example: I marked the item shipped but I don’t want the email to sent until maybe 3-4 hours laters.
Is there a way to do that?
Hey @JJewelsbyJanice!
Welcome to the Seller Community.
Technically you could choose to not have the shipping notification email sent when you create the label or mark as shipped, but there isn’t a way to resend the email at a later time. That would be a feature request. Sorry about that!

Need the ability to turn off email notifications for shipping, would like to keep the email notification of receipt.
Hi @libsladiesaux- Like Isabelle mentions above, you can choose to not have the shipping notification email sent when you create the label or mark as shipped.
When I click the "marked as shipped" button, it doesn't give me the option to not send email.
Am I missing something? (We deliver prepared meals on specific days, so after completing the order I like to close it out by marking as "shipped". I'd prefer to not email the customer that it was "shipped" -it's just to complete the order on my side so it's not listed under active orders.)
Hey @BodyandSoul-
Just to be clear here, although you deliver the prepared meals, you use the shipping fulfillment method?
Let me know so I can provide further instructions! 🤓
@isabelle Yes! I'll explain...
We run a meal prep service. Customers order a week of 5 meals that we split into two deliveries (3 meals on Monday, Two on Thursday). After the second delivery I want to close out the active order as "completed". When looking into the delivery fulfillment option, it looks like it is more geared toward regular restaurant/pizza type delivery (immediate fulfillment-with a delivery time window). I may be doing something wrong, I'm not sure. The "shipping" method has been more or less working for us for years & I didn't want to cause mass confusion by switching over-but ideally, I'd rather use "delivery" since that's what we do...
Okay. Thanks so much for that info.
You wouldn't be able to turn off shipping emails/notifications. Sorry about that. Because of this, perhaps you would want to use our delivery fulfillment, although your business has a specific process, perhaps it might fit your needs. Take a look here for more information and let me know if you have any questions @BodyandSoul.
I also need to turn off shipping emails/notifications. I shipped orders out weeks ago (haven't used the shipping function before) and when I went in to close the order, it's now sending shipping notifications, which is likely to be confusing for already-delivered merchandise. It is not giving me the option to not send an email when I mark an order as "shipped" either.
I also would like to turn off notifications to customers when I mark an order as Shipped or Completed. I have perhaps a few hundred orders marked as "In Progress" but if I mark them as Completed or Shipped emails will go out to the customers. The last time I did this it confused a lot of people. They thought they were getting another shipment and being charged for it. Created a lot of extra work for me answering the emails of concerned customers and it also reflected upon my integrity as a retailer.
I am also still looking for an answer to this issue. Did you ever find a solution or work around?
Welcome to the Community, @FABWorks 👋
Just to confirm, are you wanting to prevent the email notification from sending, or are you wanting to delay when the email is sent? Do you create your shipping labels through the Square Online dashboard?
Hello! I'd like to prevent the notification from sending because as others have mentioned, orders may have shipped or been picked up but I did not manually update the order status in a timely manner and by marking orders complete now, this would confuse those customers that picked up weeks ago. I was looking for a way to toggle off the email notifications, update all of my old orders and then turn it back on for future orders. We currently do not use shipping labels as our orders have been in-person pick up only at this time.
Thanks fore clarifying, @FABWorks. It doesn't look like there's a way to do this from the Square dashboard, but you can toggle off the email option from the Square Online dashboard Orders tab.
You will have to click on the individual order number, then select Mark as Shipped, then toggle off the option to "notify customer by email"
Aloha Bernadette! I didn't get to test this out until now. But, I should clarify that we currently only have orders for (local) Pick Up and not Shipping. I could not find the option to toggle off the notifications. Perhaps there is an option to turn off all notifications in a general setting, clean up status of all orders and then turn the notifications back on? I appreciate your help!
Hey there @FABWorks 👋
At this time customer order notifications cannot be disabled as they are part of our service agreement (to keep buyers aware of their transactions). While I can see how this could be beneficial to your business. These notifications help reduce disputes or chargebacks among other things.
We continue to make Square Online better and better every day so I will flag this a a Feature Request so our product team is able to see and possibly consider this in the future.
I hope this information is helpful!
