How can I make the default quantity one when scanning items

How can I make the default quantity one when scanning a sale into the register.  Currently I need to put in a quantity or the sale doesn't record.  When you scan a lot of items the adding of quantity slows things down and if you forget to put in the quantity the item does not make it into the total.  I know the supermarkets have this ability.

Hello @DAG and thanks for your question. Are you using an attached barcode scanner to your Square Register? If so, when you scan a barcode it should automatically add one item to your sale...and if you scan the same item twice it should add two items. Is this not working like this for you? Based on your post, I'm guess that when you scan a barcode...do you get a popup box asking to input a quantity?

Yes Charlie when I scan it asks for a quantity in a pop up.  Thanks for the reply however I have found out how to resolve the problem.  It seems if you list an item with unit and precision of "Each 1" or anything like that, the system will ask you for the quantity.  But if you list the item with a unit and precision of "Per Item" the system will assume a quantity of 1.  Crazy but that is just a quirk of the system that square never tells you about up front when you are setting up the Library of items.  I was able to reset the unit and precision using an upload of the data base.
