Inventory question for Options

Is there a way to track inventory for options that are set to all items?  Example:  I sell Air Fresheners.  The shape is my "item", and I was going to do the "scent" they want as the option.  But those options are applied to ALL items.  I know how to do this, and all is good on setting it up, but I want the inventory to decrease on all items.  So if someone orders a "heart"  with a "cotton" smell, I would like that inventory on the "cotton" to go down on "heart" as well as ALL other items/shapes.  I hope I am explaining well enough.  Is this possible?

Your question makes perfect sense to me, however, I don't believe it is possible for variations to share inventory across multiple items. You would need to set the inventory for each variation at the item level.
