If I change my Loyalty program how will it affect existing points?

We are changing the settings to our loyalty program. Currently we have it set so that $1 = 1 point and the points never expire. We are changing to a different point value and setting a 3 month expiration date. My question is, how will this effect existing points? Will they expire 3 months from today? or 3 months from the day they were issued?

If you've never had an expiration date before, when you set a new expiration date all of your existing points will start from 0 on the day you switch. So if today you change it to expire in 3 months, the existing points will expire in 3 months from today.
