I want to use the checkout keypad for the SKU, not the price.

I have items with short SKUs entered for one of my two locations, and I want to enter the SKU manually instead of entering the price manually.  It takes too long to enter the library and search.  The location has a long list of items, but we are used to entering the SKU on our old POS system.
In addition, entering the SKU would keep the inventory accurate, without having to select one of 10,000 items through the library's search function.

Sorry, but that's not acceptable.  What's a SKU for anyway but to identify the item you are selling? And what's a database for if not to link fields together into records that can be easily accessed by the app (not by me)?

So you want me to go to Library. Hit Search. Type in the SKU. Select the item.

I want to (as I do on my own POS system) Type in the SKU, have square look up the price, offer a quantity selection, then move on to the next item.  So I type the sku, hit enter, type the next sku.  If you're doing this a thousand times, you sure don't want to add any extra darn steps.

It baffles me that this isn't an option.

Hey @zappafan you can add an item to a sale by manually entering the SKU on the check out tab of Point of Sale.

If you're using a mobile device or a tablet tap the icon at the bottom of your screen that resembles a list. This icon will pull up your item library for check out. From here you can use the search bar to manually enter a SKU number. All you have to do is tap the item to add it to check out. You'll be able to view an items price and variations, but the inventory quantity won't be displayed.

If you have any other questions please let me know. I'd be happy to help out. 🙂

also, it can bring up the quantity as long as there are multiple price variations.  so even if it is an item with one price point add a second with a blank price or a second price with a 1 added at the end with the same price.  it'll bring up the qty screen but default to the 1st price point.

No, you can't.   The checkout tab of the POS is only, apparently, for dollar values.

Yes, that's the same 'solution' offered already.  Sorry, but you don't seem to understand.  We do $20 transactions as fast as we can.  There is  a line of people waiting to give me their card so I can charge it $20.  Speed means money here!!  They might be buying one of 100 items, almost all of which are $20.  On a different system, I type the SKU, hit enter, hit Charge, and swipe the card.  FAST!!  All the backoffice stuff is done by the POS system, of course, so the amount on the ticket is right, the inventory is adjusted, etc.  I don't need to enter the library, search for the item, then select the item. then hit charge and swipe the card.  SLOW!!

There should be an option to enter the SKU instead of the cost.  If there is, then please explain how to do that.  But entering the library to search for the item isn't a solution.

Hey @zappafan, it sounds like you're stuck on the custom amount screen. This is possible with Square Point of Sale. Please take a look at the images below with red arrows. For reference I entered "123" as the SKU for my nacho item.

See those options where the red arrow goes?  I don't have those.

So maybe it's a hardware issue.  I"m using a cheap Moto G5 as the POS, and it's actually an excellent phone. But it shows me the normally invisible "back", "home", and "apps" buttons for the phone's OS, and not a keypad vs library option.  I'll look on my cheaper tablet tomorrow.

It looks like you're doing exactly what I want, but can't.

2 nachos please!

This is starting to make sense now @zappafan

I took a look at our Device Compatibility page and didn't see the Moto G5 listed. This is a good page to reference if you want to see if our hardware is compatible with your device as well.

2 nachos coming up! Would you like black napkins with that? 😉
