I am getting a new free card reader with a new accout, but do I need a second that is a chip reader

I am reactivating and old account.  My old credit card reader is no longer supported.  Square is sending me a new credit card reader, but do I also need to buy a Chip Reader.  Will the old credit card reader work with new Credit Cards with Chips.  Thanks Bob

yes technically it will work on chip cards, but there was this thing called the liability shift a year or 2 ago that if you don't take a chip card with a chip reader and it is fraudulent it is your responsibility to cover the loss.  read about it here.  https://squareup.com/emv-liability-shift
