A customer was given an E-gift card for Christmas. She wanted to redeem it. She was given a $50 gift card, but only spent $45. I don't want to clear the whole balance, just reduce it to $5. Thoughts?
@PTB - The e-gift card balance will automatically decrease as your customer uses it. No need to manually reduce the balance.
Simply ring up the purchase and enter your customer's e-gift card number for payment. The POS will handle the gift card balance for you.
Thank you! Guess it makes sense to process a sale ... *face palm*
Don't sweat it! I'm glad you asked 🙂

What if the customer does not have or lost their e-gift card number, is there a way where I can partially deduct from the e-gift card balance?
Hi @JadePignaud,
As a seller, you can always reissue the giftcard to the email address it was sent to, or a new one. In regard to deducting the balance, we only offer the option to fully clear the balance at this time.

If Square allows a card to be used incrementally on multiple purchases, what happens when the card balance is lower than the current item being purchased? I'm testing and it appears that in this situation, you can't apply the balance to the purchase and complete the transaction. What is the work around for this? What does a seller do when this happens to their customer? It's awfully confusing for a customer. One would expect that the gift card balance would be applied and credit card payment for the balance. Thank you for confirming.
