Square asked for access to manage, delete, modify or assign my Google business listing in order to get permissions to allow my clients to write Google reviews. How can this function be set up without giving away this kind of reckless access of Google to Square?
hi @Eclatmedspa ,
i don’t think you can. The permissions that you are being requested are for square to be able to update your profile.
i already connected mine and there would be a page in square where you enter your business info and that will update your profile. It will include you le business description hours and other basic info.
This permissions are very common now days and it is the way that applications can communicate to each other. But I do agree with you, they shouldn’t have access to delete. That seems a little bit to extrémeme and I don’t see the use case for square deleting your profile. Not sure if this was done by mistake or if there is some reasoning behind it.
I believe the main reason they ask for this permissions is for you to manage your profile from square. In theory nothing will be published without you reviewing it first. Plus probably for reporting since you will be able to see in square the exact people that got you the review. If they were not able to see who was it. Then they would probably keep messaging the same people over and over again
But off course everyone always had the choice of no given permissions and just not have applications communicate to each other. you can always send a manual campaign with the link to your profile
cheers
Yeah I decided against granting the permission to Square. Since they already have an automated email set up to gather FB reviews, easy enough to hack it and add a link to Google reviews at the same time. There are so many great aspects of Square, but others which are inefficient, laborious, and lacking. Hoping they come up with fixes
I am having this same issue or line of thinking. I do not want to grant Square access to my Google Business Profile. And I agree with you where Square is great but there are some things where it's dumbfounding that they are a technology company. How exactly did you hack to add Google Reviews? Thanks.
