How can I work around price per pound?

We sell farm to table fare and our most popular sell is meat. It is sold per pound. Has anyone figured out a way to set that up? I know square doesn't have that feature yet unfortunately. The only thing I can come up with is doing the math prior to inputting the total?

Yes, that is the best option currently, to set up an item with variable pricing and enter in the precalculated price when it prompts you.

We are having the same problem.  It seems like an easy work around.  Since our meat is already weighed(no need for a scale) and marked square should allow a price per pound option.  When you select the item it would bring up a place to input the weight and then multiply that by the price per pound.  Currently we keep a calculator and do the math and then input the price at the time.  During really busy time I find that I skip selecting an item and just charge a price.  Then it screws up my inventory and ability to track what is selling.  Really like using square other then the lack of this feature.

Is there any update to this yet? As we are facing the same thing, in that we sell meat at price per pound.

I don't think it would be that difficult to have your item price per pound saved similar to the way it is now, and then at time of checkout enter the number of pounds (i.e. - 2.47 lbs) with the number of packages of that specific item (i.e. - 3 packages). This would allow us to track number of pounds sold along with tracking with the proper amount of inventory through Square.

Just a thought. Thanks!

Hey, @NLF, thanks for checking in here. I went to look for updates on this request and there aren't any developments that I can share out at this time. For now, VanKalkerFarms' suggestion is the best workaround. Sorry for any extra work this may cause—I'll definitely share your post with our Point of Sale team and point out how a little bit of automation here would go a long way for your business.

People have been asking Square for this function for over 3 years and all they can say is: "It's coming, maybe.  We can't say when."  Our store has the same type of problem.  We sell stained glass in square foot increments, and glass being glass doesn't always break in neat 1 square foot units, and sometimes the customer doesn't want an even number of square feet anyway.  We developed the variable-price work-around, but with over 2,000 different types of glass, it was a huge job for two people.  To me, it's ridiculous that Square can't provide the fractional-unit ability.
