How can I charge tax on items but not on shipping?

In my "Items" list, I have setup shipping amounts and have made sure NOT to check the tax option for this item. However, when I add the shipping to an invoice of other items, it is still charging tax, as the tax applies to the entire sale. How can I confine the tax to the items only and not the shipping cost?

By the way, I should mention that if I am charging only for shipping, the tax does not activate. But once I add items, the shipping amount gets taxed along with the other items. I'm thinking this is perhaps a bug in the Square system?

Hi @Skimmerhorn. I'm happy to do my best to help out with this, but it might be easiest if we ran this down over the phone. In general, you get to chose what taxes are applied to each item - just navigate to the tax settings on Square Point of Sale. You can also remove a tax from a sale by clicking the current sale before tendering. You can also lear to modify your tax settings on our Help Center. Hope this helps!

Hi @britandbelle, welcome to the Community.

Definitely sounds like something's up. If you've created a tax and save it to your items - excluding your shipping items - then it should not adjust the tax amount whenever a shipping item is added to a sale.

Are you still experiencing this issue? If so, it may be easier to give our Support team a call so they can look at your account with you. Thanks again!
