Help with price overrides on register at time of sale

hi

I am trying to find a way to create a price override at time of sale. this is and would be really useful for keeping track of your items sold and the override price. with out coupons.

For instance

I'll have a customer come up to the register and ask for a discount because of one reason or another (IE damage, open box, or just cause I feel nice that day)

I did see the custom part in the register but that really wouldn't work because it would show custom item instead of my inventory item and can not be tracked properly.

I think square needs to make it so that the cashier (with and/or without manager code) can edit the price.

IE The cashier rings up the item at full price, the customer asks/ or manager tells the clerk to give them $5 off or 10% whatever)  asks for a discount. edit the price and the register pops up a box so they can select reason for discount. this would need to work the same as per lb, (weight) per foot and per yard etc....

I'm sorry this turned out to be a feature request rather than a Does any one know how to question but Its one that square lacks unless its a perfect world and they need to implement this in their system.

You can set up an item with the price as the default first price, but you can also add a second variation and leave it blank.  Now when you add the item it will bring up a screen with that item and you can hit add to leave it at the default price or choose the custom or open or whatever you named the second variation and input a price.

you also can always add a discount percentage to an item while adding it or once it is on the cart.

That may be an ok workaround but I am trying to avoid all these many discounts and or variations. Every register I have ever used has had an over ride option I think  this should too

typing in the price will be a price override.  It is still the same item being sold for item sales reports and not creating a different one to hinder tracking like just typing in custom amounts would be not trackable.  plus you will be able to see in the item report that 47 "widgets" were sold and 42 were regular price and 2 were $5 off and 3 were 10% off or whatever.  hitting the 20% off button or typing in the lower price still gets you to the same answer and you don't have to do the math outside of the register.

hi thanks for that answer. However I may not have the correct price at the time of checkout and the customer does not need or should have to wait while I do it on the PC.

I'm not sure why you'd go to the PC to do anything when the customer is there.  You just do it directly in the pos, typing the price wouldn't take but a second as you are selecting the item that you want to discount nor would selecting a discount percentage.
