Gift Card Layout - 3rd party gift cards

I am ordering 3rd Party Gift Cards, and they are asking about the gift card track layout. 

Does the Square POS us track 1 for the gift cards, similar to credit cards, or do the gift cards use track 2?

Is there a specific format for gift card track layout?

"Important Tips for Loading and Selling Your Gift Cards

• A gift card is activated once the sale is complete.

• Only plastic gift cards ordered through eCard Systems can be loaded, sold, or accepted from the Square Point of Sale app or Square Online."

You can use custom gift cards, they would be an alternate tender type in the point of sale, but you would have to keep track of that separately from square.
