Employee Badge as Gift Card?

Is it possible to use an employee badge number as a gift card number? For example, each employee badge has a barcode on it that corresponds to a 4 digit number. I'd like to be able to allow these number's to correspond to the gift card payment type, but I'm not having any luck so far. I'm okay with even manually entering the # instead of scanning or swiping because it's only 4 numbers. Not even sure how many digits Squares gift card requirements is (4 numbers say it's invalid). Our setup doesn't allow a swiper to be installed on the tablet as it is in a locked case and it has an ethernet / charger adapter plugged into it at all times. If we can even do this, does the Square gift card reporting have the actually numbers of the gift cards loaded on it? This would allow us to use payroll deductions for when people use their badge # to load money onto their badge. We are s small critical access hospital with very limited funding if this question sounds crazy... We have to make do with what we can get. Any ideas? Thanks!

While we don't have a way to process payments with employee badges, but you might be interested in Tom's gift card workaround.
