Double Charge Processed as Cash

At the end of the night we were over $100 short in cash and I researched transactions to find two completely identical (same customer, same 12 items) cash transactions 2 minutes apart with different receipt numbers.  The employee did not re-enter the items (there were never two tickets).  Note: it appears payment was processed for the same ticket from two iPads.  How/where in the process is 5his possible??
