Does Square support charges on American Express?

I attempted an AE out of state charge, with all correct information, but was declined; stated to verify information.  The card holder called AE; AE had approved the transactions.   Why was the charge declined by Square????

yes, American Express is one of the supported cards, we took 1,000s of Amex cards in a year.  99% of the time Square simply passes on the approval or denial from the credit card issuer.   there must have been something Amex didn't like with the transaction and fraud possibly, especially being out of state and not a normal purchase for this customer.  other issues are non-matching zip or exp also.
