Does Square consume connect minutes from the time I log in to the time I log out on my prepaid phone

I use a prepaid (pay-as-you-go) smartphone for my Square and occasional phone conversations.  I recently ran out of prepaid minutes, which came as a shock because I seldom call or receive calls on that phone.  The main culprit may be how I use Square. 

Does Square consume connect minutes from the time I log in to the time I log out?  If not, how does it use connect time?

That will depend on how your phone provider defines "connect time". Square won't use your phone minutes but the Square App will consume data. 

Typically the Register app will use 10kb per transaction, if you customer provides a signature that can jump to a maximum of 50 kb per transaction.
