Do you have to make each individual gift card an item?

We just recieved a pack of 135 gift cards and the instructions say to create a new gift card item and enter the SKU number and dollar amount. Do I have to enter all of the SKU numbers manually for all 135 cards and have each card as an individual item? Is the SKU number the same as the card number? I see that there is another set of seven numbers next to the card number on the back.

@NRHS, No you do not need to do all that work. Follow these instructions: https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5393-set-up-your-gift-cards

After you have a Gift Card set up on your Square Register, all you need to do is at the time of sale, swipe the gift card card you want to sell, enter the dollar amount that the customer wants to buy, like a $10.00 card or $20.00 card etc. Have the customer pay you and you are all set!

Thank you for your answer. I had the same question.

So you only really have to set up one gift card item with a variable value? And choose that item every time you load a new gift card?

I wonder then what is the purpose of the "description" section. What would be the reason to have different items?

Thanks again. This is my first time using them and the Square article doesn't go into these details.

Yes, you are correct in everything you stated. Love having our own Gift Cards now instead of selling paper gift certificates.
