Do we need the chip reader to accept chip cards or can we just swipe them on the magstripe reader?

My wife is in the middle of starting her own salon business and is wanting to use your product. Just wondering if she needs both the main square and the chip reader square to accept cards. Obviously most cards today are chip so I guess my main concern is can she just swipe them in the normal chip reader and still receive payment or does she need both

You can use just the magnetic swipe reader, but you are liable then for any fraud because you didn't use the chip card reader.
